
Captain Janet Days is a trailblazing officer in the U.S. Navy, recognized for her significant achievements and leadership. In February 2023, she was installed as the 51st Commanding Officer of Naval Station Norfolk, the world's largest naval base. As the first Black woman to hold this position, Captain Days will share her experiences in this role as well as lessons learned throughout her impressive Naval career which includes a series of leadership roles both at sea and ashore.
Captain Days has held key positions aboard various vessels, including the USS McFaul (DDG 74), where she served as both Executive Officer and Commanding Officer. Ashore, she has been involved in critical training and development roles, notably as the Director of Maritime Warfare at the Surface Warfare Officers School.
In recognition of her service, Captain Days has received numerous awards including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.
